How to Prepare for a Hurricane

9/6/2016 (Permalink)

September is here and hurricane season is picking up. It is important to refresh yourself on the steps needed in order to prepare yourself for a storm. When news breaks that a storm is on the rise, we traditionally have several days to prepare for it. It is important to track the storm day by day because it is possible for it to pick up speed or change directions. Once a hurricane has been announced it is crucial to gather food and water. It is important to get the supplies as quickly as possible. Stores will sell bottled water and perishables fast. After you have gone out and collected food and water, you must prepare your fridge and freezer.  Eat all perishables first in anticipation of the power going out. Fill your fridge and freezer with bottled water and non-perishables. The fuller your freezer is, the more items there are to retain the cold. Put all the ice you have in your freezer into plastic bags and fill the spaces in your freezer with it. Lastly put all of your valuables into clear plastic bags and hang them high off the floor. This will insure the items will stay dry in case of flooding.  Keep these few tips in mind and you will be well prepared for the next hurricane.
